Whatcha reading in 2014???

2014...Welcome to a new year of books! I managed to read 55 last year: not too shabby when my teaching gig requires reading and writing all day, but this year, I have a list in mind of books I'd really like to get to (thank you, Goodreads!) and am looking forward to some of my favorite authors coming out with new stuff...Happy reading!

  1. You've got some great books earmarked! I met A.S. King at a conference last year and was so blown away by her personality and vulnerability that I immediately picked up a copy of Please Ignore Vera Dietz...and loved it. Now Reality Boy is high on my list. Also right up there: Divergent--my daughter and step-daughter loved it and I want to read it before my daughter drags me to the movie (out in March) and Gone Girl. Just read Gillian Flynn's Sharp Objects and that is one twisted author (love it and am frightened by it at the same time.)

  2. Thanks for the response, Kim! Definitely check out *Everybody Sees the Ants* by A.S. King -- I felt it was stronger than* Dietz*. And I was somewhat disappointed by *Divergent*, the story is great, but the writing is isn't meaty enough for me. Right now, I'm reading Matt de la Pena's *We Were Here* and it's fabulous. He's a fave of mine and somehow I only got to this one now. I'm taking a workshop with him next month...YA remains my genre of choice, for sure...Happy Reading!!!
